The Minnesota Vikings are entering a new phase in their development of a huge piece of property in Eagan.

The Wilf family that owns the NFL team are real estate developers. They're turning 200 acres of land in the southeast metro into Viking Lakes. When it's completed, it will have more than 3 million square feet of corporate, medical, retail, entertainment and apartment space.

That includes the new Omni Viking Lakes Hotel. It will be just a short walk from Vikings headquarters.

The 14-story, four-star, full-service hotel will have 320 rooms and suites and 35,000 square feet of meeting space. It will also have a specialty restaurant and all-day dining venue, spa and fitness center. According to Omni Hotels, the design draws upon Nordic architectural traditions and features elements inspired by the American Nordic landscapes of the north.

When it's complete, the Omni Viking Lakes Hotel will include 356,000 square feet of space, or approximately six football fields.

The outside of the hotel is pretty much closed up now. Inside, everything is under construction.

The view from the top floor is incredible. You can see downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul.

You can also view the team's headquarters but not the outdoor practice facility. That's on purpose.

"From the beginning, the hotel was designed so that it would be quite impossible to get a view of the main fields where they hold the majority of their practices," said Brent Glashan, Omni Viking Lakes Hotel, General Manager. "So, there are four main fields that they will practice on, but where they spend the majority of time on those plays is all in behind and it was designed literally within a few feet difference when they made the design to ensure you could not overlook that field."

The Omni Viking Lakes Hotel will be used to house players during training camp. In the future, some may also choose to live in the apartments that will be built in the next phase of the Viking Lakes project.
